Types of snuff

The principle of snuff is always the same. However, there are different types, which differ in the production and types of tobacco. We will explain more about this to you below.

Schmalzler

Schmalzler owes its name to its Bavarian origin. It is definitely one of the classics in the field of snuff tobacco. It was originally made from dark, sauced Brazilian tobacco. The name comes from the fact that clarified butter used to be added to make the powder less dusty. Today, clarified butter is no longer used for this, but oil is added. This ensures a moist, slightly sticky consistency.
The earthy, spicy taste is typical of Schmalzler.

snuff

Snuff is the best-selling snuff. He is originally from England. Light Virginia tobacco from the USA and Africa is used for the production. Snuff is typically infused with flavors such as menthol, eucalyptus and herbs. This leads to the unmistakable fresh taste. The consistency of snuff can vary greatly. Some products are very powdery, while others are more sticky. Typically, snuff is very finely ground.

Classic snuff

The classic snuff is the oldest known form. In the past, roasted and flavored tobacco was formed into so-called "tobacco carrots". These were stored for several years and fermented in this way. Due to this long storage, this procedure is rarely performed nowadays, but it still exists.

In terms of taste, the traditional tobacco can be described as very intense. Flavors are added in bulk, if at all, without overpowering the taste.

Difference between snuff and snus

There are many different ways of consuming tobacco. In addition to the classic cigarettes, you often find the terms snuff and snus. But what is the difference between snuff and snus?

As previously explained, snuff is consumed by sniffing. As a result, the tobacco gets into the nasal mucous membranes and thus directly into the bloodstream. The result is a feeling of comfort and relaxation.

Snus, on the other hand, is usually not loose, but is in small bags that are reminiscent of tea bags. This is placed under the upper lip and left there for as long as is comfortable. In this way, the nicotine can be released bit by bit. In this way, the nicotine also gets directly into the bloodstream via the oral mucosa.
